How Much Does Pool Removal Cost in Cincinnati?
Inground pool removal in Greater Cincinnati typically costs $5,000 to $15,000 for partial removal and $8,000 to $18,000 for full removal. The main cost factors are pool size, construction type (concrete, fiberglass, or vinyl), and whether you choose partial or full demolition.
Partial vs. Full Pool Removal
Partial removal is the most common choice. We break the pool walls down to about 18 inches below grade, punch drainage holes in the bottom, and backfill the cavity with clean fill material in compacted lifts. This approach is significantly cheaper and works for most situations — converting the space to lawn, garden, or patio.
Full removal means we extract every piece of the pool — all concrete, rebar, liner material, and plumbing. The entire cavity is backfilled. This is recommended when you plan to build a structure over the former pool location, as partial removal leaves material underground that could affect future construction.
Pool Type and Cost Impact
- Concrete/Gunite pools — Most expensive to remove due to the heavy, reinforced concrete shell. Requires hydraulic breakers and generates significant debris.
- Fiberglass pools — Moderate cost. The shell can sometimes be removed in large sections, reducing demolition time.
- Vinyl liner pools — Least expensive. The liner is removed and the concrete or steel walls are demolished or extracted.
What to Expect During Pool Removal
Most pool removals take 2–3 days. Before we start, all electrical, gas, and water connections to the pool need to be disconnected by a licensed electrician. We handle the demolition, backfill, grading, and debris disposal. After backfill and grading, the area is ready for topsoil and seeding.
Some settling is normal over the first year — even with proper compaction in lifts, you may see 2–4 inches of settling as the fill material consolidates. This is easily corrected with additional topsoil.
